Participants Complete Agricultural Supervisory Leadership Program

The Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development team is thrilled to announce that two participants have successfully completed the Agricultural Supervisory Leadership (ASL) certificate program. This marks the first time participants have completed the full six-course program. The ASL courses were developed to empower managers and supervisors in the agricultural industry and equip them with essential skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. The two participants who have been awarded the ASL completion certificates are Jeannette Kreher Heberling, Director of Employee Experience at Kreher Family Farms and Julie Niedzwick, Social Media and Marketing Director at Stokoe Farms. Jeannette and Julie reflected on their experience as participants in the Ag Supervisory Leadership program.

Jeannette: “It was great to take the course with several of our team members and see their growth or discuss opportunities for them to use what they learned.”

Julie: “There are so many take-a-ways from the 6 Modules. But not only are the video lectures informative, thought provoking, efficient, the follow-up tools such as discussion boards, exercises, and weekly Zooms, really help to expand the understanding of the subject. I am left with tools and examples that I will share with staff for years to come.”

By registering for each course, participants engage with other professionals while instruction is provided by the Cornell Ag Workforce Development team and guest educators. Each course consists of five to six weeks of instruction focusing on enhancing leadership and management abilities. The instruction is comprised of prerecorded lectures, reading tasks, practical exercises, live discussions, and quizzes. Those who complete all six courses and achieve 70 percent or better on all weekly quizzes receive an Agricultural Supervisory Leadership certificate.

The Agricultural Supervisory Leadership (ASL) courses offered are as follows:
ASL101: Transition to Supervisor
ASL102: Organizing Work for High-Quality Results
ASL103: Managing Performance
ASL104: Staffing and Organizing Your Team
ASL105: Employee Development and Training
ASL106: Ethics and Employment Regulations

ASL101 is also available in Spanish, and ASL102 will be offered in Spanish in June 2024. Spanish offerings for ASL103-106 continue to be developed and will be offered at a later date.
