Labor Roadshow Features Legal Topics

Agricultural Workforce Development Council’s Labor Roadshow VII will feature two legal topics this year:

  1. Farm Union Law Update and Strategy. Learn the latest about farm union organizing in New York and steps that farm employers can take to remain in compliance, avoid mistakes, and maintain composure during a stressful time.
  2. Equal Employment Opportunity Topics. A review of the laws enforced by EEOC that farm employers should know about, how to handle demand letters, managing under constant scrutiny from outside groups, and avoiding lawsuits. Also, best practices for handling labor audits from federal and state agencies and when to hire an attorney.

Legal topics can be complex and difficult for farm managers. Labor Roadshow creates an opportunity for managers to learn about these topics and ask questions of qualified attorneys who are familiar with New York’s unique legal issues. Perhaps one of the most important questions to understand is “when should I call a lawyer?” Because timely legal help can make a dramatic difference in whether the outcome is successful or not.
