At some point, most farm employers feel the need for a written employee handbook. It can be very helpful to bring consistency to policies and procedures, and to demonstrate to employees the importance of their jobs and the professionalism of the business. There’s a new page on agworkforce.cals.cornell.edu that shares some resources to get started writing an employee handbook. It won’t work to just copy a handbook template for your farm, there are too many ways that individual farm businesses differ. Instead, you can use these templates as a starting point, make the edits and addition that you need, then work with a consultant or attorney to further customize it for your needs.
