There Really Aren’t Enough Workers To Go Around!

For years the agricultural industry has pointed out that there just aren’t enough willing workers available to fill the jobs and get the work done. Well, apparently the Bureau of Labor Statistics has confirmed that concern. The number of unemployed people per job opening in the U.S. was at 0.9 in July 2018, put another way, for every open job there was less than one unemployed person available to fill it. Of course, life is not that simple and jobs aren’t filled only by unemployed people, more often they are filled by someone leaving another job.

Still, this statistic illustrates a couple of points:

  1. The job market is incredibly tight and it’s tough for employers to fill open positions.
  2. Employers need to redouble their efforts to hold on to their best, most productive employees. If you don’t, another employer would gladly have them.
