It’s Fire Prevention Week! Review our guide for fire prevention and safety tips.

In case you missed it – it’s National Fire Prevention Week! Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development Extension Support Specialist, Jay Canzonier, has put together a useful tip guide for fire prevention and safety. Having an emergency plan and proper fire safety equipment in your farm-provided employee housing can save lives. The risk of fire in a dwelling occupied by multiple people in an unfamiliar setting, combined with the complexity of residents working multiple shifts, sharing cooking facilities and maintenance responsibilities, increases the need to plan and prepare for fire emergencies. You can greatly reduce risk by breaking fire safety into five integral parts as listed in the guide.

The guide can be found on our Employee Housing page. Or, you can jump to the Fire Safety in Farm-provided Employee Housing guide here.

On Wednesday, October 11, we highlighted Jay on our Facebook page, who is also a volunteer firefighter with the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department. Many thanks to Jay and all first responders!

National Fire Prevention Week was first recognized in 1922 and was nationally observed beginning in 1925. Learn more by visiting the National Fire Prevention Week website.
