Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development Launches Two Fall Courses

As the leaves turn and the harvest season arrives, it’s time to reflect on the fruits of your labor and invest in your future. Now is the perfect moment to cultivate your skills and enhance your leadership potential. Join us this fall for two Agricultural Supervisory Leadership courses offered by Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development, designed specifically for agricultural supervisor looking to reap the benefits of personal and professional growth:

  1. “Transition to Supervisor”, ASL101: Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development’s flagship online course, Transition to Supervisor, equips aspiring and new managers with essential leadership skills tailored for the agricultural industry. The course covers a range of crucial topics, including making the transition to supervisor, improving communication, understanding differences, managing conflict, leading a multicultural team, and building strong relationships. It is designed not only for new managers but also for those looking to step into supervisory roles. Experienced managers can also benefit from the course, gaining fresh insights to enhance their leadership effectiveness and better manage teams in a dynamic, diverse work environment. This course is offered online using the web-based platform Moodle. Materials release on November 6 with live weekly Zoom discussions every Tuesday at 3 PM ET beginning November 12 through December 17, 2024. Participation in the Zoom sessions is highly encouraged and provides a valued opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and networking. To get the most out of the course, students should plan to spend a minimum of two hours each week on combined course activities.
  2. “Organizing Work for High Quality Results”, ASL102-SP (taught in Spanish): Whether you are a manager with many years of experience looking for ways to improve your skills or you are just starting out and want to learn more, this “Leading for Quality Results” course will provide you with the tools you need to successfully lead your team and your ranch. You will learn how to align your expectations with employee performance to achieve consistent excellence. You will discover techniques to delegate tasks efficiently, empowering your colleagues to be more independent and excel in their roles. You will learn how to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures to ensure your ranch operates at peak performance. Materials will be available starting November 6, and live Zoom discussions will occur every Tuesday at 12 PM ET from November 12 to December 17, 2024. Active participation in these sessions is strongly recommended as they offer valuable opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking. To maximize learning outcomes, students are encouraged to dedicate a minimum of two hours per week to engage in course activities.

Each course is priced at $275 for residents or workers in New York State and $325 for participants outside the state or internationally, early registration is now open.
