Farmers to Discuss Farm Worker Housing

For farmers who provide housing to their workers, maintenance of high quality housing has become an increasing priority to help ensure worker safety and job satisfaction. The upcoming Becker Forum on farm labor will feature a panel of agricultural employers discussing the steps they take to provide and maintain top-notch housing for their workers. The panelists will be Dale Hamminger, Hemdale Farms and Greenhouses Seneca Castle New York, Brett Kast, Kast Farms, Albion New York and Ann Prescott, Willow Bend Farm, Clifton Springs New York.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • making farm investments in worker housing,
  • timely housing repair, the workers role in housing maintenance,
  • complying with housing codes,
  • requirements for H-2A housing,
  • how to conduct regular housing inspections
  • and the farm employer’s responsibilities as a landlord.

The Becker Forum will take place at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool on January 14, 2019.
