California Dairy Adopting a Workforce Strategy

Farmers know best how critical a reliable and effective workforce is for success. It appears that the California dairy industry is taking positive steps to enhance and develop their workforce among the local Latino population. An article in California Ag Today describes an initiative, led by Western United Dairymen, to reach out and show appreciation to the Latino community. The article describes providing immigration services free of charge and taking steps to elevate the status of women working in dairy.

California provides an example of a positive and strategic workforce development effort to benefit and attract a particular population of potential employees. It’s time for agriculture to think more creatively about workforce development and this type of outreach is a great place to start.
